3G / Artificial Grass Pitch Installation

Following completion of the preparatory groundworks, construction can then progress to the installation of the pitch surface layers themselves.

Shockpad

We usually recommend installation of a shockpad underneath the 3G grass carpet to prolong the life of your artificial pitch and provide optimum performance conditions. This is a staple of professional sports pitch construction and is especially important if the facility is being used for rugby or other high-contact sports as the shockpad provides impact absorption and in turn helps to prevent player injury.

The shockpad is placed between the sub-base/porous tarmac base layer and the artificial grass carpet surface. It provides additional cushioning, reduces impact to players’ joints and muscles upon landing and keeps them comfortable during use of the pitch.

Installation of a high quality shockpad may allow use of shorter turf pile blades which require less maintenance than a longer pile surface.

Artificial Turf Carpet

The next part of the process is laying the synthetic 3G turf carpet on top of the shockpad.

The best quality turf carpet piles are made from polyethylene and / or monofilament fibre to varying length and weight specifications dependent on the type of sport the pitch is being used for. Football pitches, for example, should have a pile height of 40-60mm to provide realistic playing characteristics and optimal pitch performance.

Sand & Rubber Infill

3G artificial turf pitch systems contain a sand and rubber crumb infill which is applied within the carpet pile as the final stage in the installation process. This combination of materials imitates a real pitch surface by adding thickness to the turf pile.

The infill system is specifically designed to provide natural playing qualities, simulating realistic ball response and control, and is ideal for use in football and rugby sports facility settings.

With EB Sports, you also have the option to install additional elements such as fencing or floodlighting as a package within your project to make sure your pitch development scheme achieves the highest level of quality and meets all functional usage requirements for your organisation.
